Dan Elwood
Dan Elwood, born in Zagreb in 1988, is a musician in every sense of the word. His first encounter with Blues was as a 14-year-old kid watching the 1980 musical comedy The Blues Brothers. A year later, Dan became a Bluesman himself, donning his black suit and tie and teaching himself to play the blues harp. He has been hypnotizing audiences with his blues harp in some of Zurich’s and Zagreb’s most popular music venues ever since.
Beyond making his blues harp wail like a chorus of restless spirits, Dan also plays the guitar. He is known for his vocal depth and intensity, making every note feel full-bodied and heartfelt.
Dan has appeared as an on-stage guest alongside many bands in both Switzerland and Croatia.
Roots
To help share his love for the Blues, Dan founded the Twisted Smoke Band back in 2007, to perform his original songs and breathe new life into timeless classics, inspired by legends such as Ray Charles, B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Little Walter, Booker T. among others.
Musicians
The Twisted Smoke Band is a group of experienced musicians, chosen carefully by Dan Elwood, who poured his talent, sweat and tears into creating a unique harmony of blues flavors. Among its regular members are bass player Michele Limina and Niccolò Bartalucci, whose soulful guitar riffs resonate with the influence of John Mayer.
Sound
Dan Elwood’s original music is a tribute to classical blues and rhythm and blues genres, complemented with a modern dash of rock’n’roll and pop. His lyrics invoke a mixture of laughter, tragedy, and irony drawing inspiration from the storytelling tradition of Country music. The band’s repertoire is diverse, designed to resonate with a wide range of audiences.
Releases
In 2020, after more than a decade of live performances, the Zurich, Switzerland-based band released their first single “They Call Me Dan Elwood” on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms. In the first half of 2025, fans can look forward to the release of an EP featuring new original songs.
Concerts
The band plays regularly in both emerging and established venues, primarily around Zurich and Zagreb. They have enjoyed numerous residencies at various locations in Zurich, including their current spot at the renowned Gotthard Bar. In summer, they can be heard at regional festivals as well. The band is known for its obsessive attention to detail, a unique visual style as well as energetic performances that keep feet tapping on the dance floor until late hours. Attending a Twisted Smoke Band concert is guaranteed to be a memorable experience.
